Greendance Winery's fifth anniversary celebration will feature wines of the southwest passage wine trail on Saturday and Sunday.

Greendance hosts a wine festival every year in the fall; however, five area wineries will be on hand for this year's celebration including Christian Klay Winery, Greenhouse Winery, Walnut Hill Winery and Thistlethwaite Vineyards. All of the wineries will offer wine tasting and sales.

“We are a part of the Southwest Passage Wine Trail and decided to invite the other members of the wine trail to create a more well-rounded event to expose our customers to some of the other wineries,” said Jay Brown, manager of Greendance Winery.

Various wine-related activities will be held throughout the weekend.

The great grape stomp will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants are encouraged to register for the event by calling Greendance Winery. However, walk-ins are welcome. Prizes will be awarded to the individuals who produce the most juice using a set amount of grapes in a wine barrel with their bare feet. Greendance personnel will wear traditional peasant costumes during the event.

John Tremba will conduct a wine-making workshop at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tremba is a technical associate and assistant winemaker at Greendance. The workshops are limited to 15 participants each day at a cost of $10 per person.

Carol Pascuizzi from the Pennsylvania Macaroni Company in the Strip District will host a wine and cheese pairing demonstration at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday. The cost, which features premium cheese and wines, is $15 per person.

A selection of sandwiches, dips, cheese, baguettes and snack will be available for purchase throughout the weekend. Local Chef Sergio will prepare a selection of savory crepes on Sunday.

Live entertainment will be held in the Nectar Garden. Gary Rahl will perform from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; David “Junior” Guthrie, 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday; and Abacus Jones, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Admission to the festival and parking are free. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For additional information, contact Greendance Winery at Sand Hill at 724-547-6500.
