Sale of used books, crafts to benefit Mt. Pleasant library
The public is invited to browse the large selection of gently used books, magazines and DVDs displayed at the Mt. Pleasant Public Library's biannual used book sale.
The event will begin Monday and run through April 20 during regular library hours. In honor of National Library Week, the Friends of the Mt. Pleasant Library are holding the event as a fundraiser to benefit the borough facility located on South Church Street.
“Money made from the sale will be used to buy new books and for purchasing necessary items for the children's library programming,” said library employee Carol Klocek.
Anyone wishing to donate items to be sold, can drop them off anytime during regular library hours, Klocek said.
In addition to the variety of reading material and movies for sale, craft vendors will also set up booths for the event.
“We decided to try something different this time around and bundle the Used Book Sale with the selling of the crafts,” said Mary Jo Baker, who handles publicity for the Friends of the Mt. Pleasant Library.
Items such as jewelry, ruffled scarves, dish towels, backpacks and doll clothing will be available for purchase from about a dozen vendors, said Nancy Sebek, president of the group.
Additionally, baked goods such as pitzels and homemade chocolate lollipops will also be for sale.
A spring cooking/baking gift basket will also be raffled off to one lucky winner.
The basket is filled with kitchen items, including a recipe box containing recipes submitted by the Friends of the Library.
Tickets can be purchased at the library from now until the conclusion of the book sale.
The cost is $2 per ticket, $5 for 3, or $10 for 7 tickets.
The Used Book Sale is just one of the multiple yearly fundraisers completed by the Friends of the Library.
Additional events planned for this summer include a Mutt Strut dog walk and an art show.
“The library is just such a wonderful, educational place,” Sebek said. “We want to help them financially as much as we can.”
