'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

A familiar face will serve as second-in-command on the Franklin Regional School Board.

Paul Scheinert was appointed vice president of the board Monday by a 5-3 vote. Board member Kim Bondi was absent, and board members Larry Borland, Dennis Pavlik and Jane Tower voted to appoint Tower.

Scheinert replaces former board member Joe Seymour, who resigned in June. He was nominated by Roberta Cook, while Tower was nominated by Borland.

Scheinert served as vice president for six-and-a-half years before being replaced in December by Seymour. Scheinert said he appreciated the vote of confidence given by his fellow board members.
