Murrysville police Chief Tom Seefeld said police received a call about the one-car accident at 10:50 p.m. He said the driver — Brian Scott Spoly, 21, of Slickville, Loyalhanna Township — was dead when emergency crews arrived at the scene of the accident.

Authorities said Spoly ws driving west on Route 22, drove off the north side of the highway and struck a utility pole. The said the vehicle came to rest on the driver's side near the utility pole.

Police have not released the name of the passenger.

Seefeld said the passenger was taken to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. The passenger's condition is not known.

Spoly was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Joshua Zappone. He said Spoly died of blunt force trauma to his head, neck and chest.

Toxicology reports will not be available for several weeks, Zappone said.
