Aquinas Academy seniors excel in test scores

Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, 9:29 p.m.

More than one of third of 12th-graders at Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh, a Catholic school in Hampton, earned perfect scores of 800 on the critical reading part of the standardized SAT test for college admissions.

Six members of the 17-member Class of 2013 logged the perfect scores: Margaret Boyd and Christopher Kirkland, both of Sewickley; Paige Hardman of Cranberry; Clare Meland of Shaler; Maria McKeating of Pine; and Roman Solomond of McCandless.

“Clare actually scored an 800 both times she took the SAT test, which the College Board said is a very rare achievement,” said Mike Burchill, assistant head of Aquinas Academy. “Clare also scored a perfect 800 in writing, which is the third part of the (SAT) test.”

Matthew So of Mars, also a member of the Class of 2013, earned a perfect score on the ACT test, another standardized exam.
