Hampton promotes officer to full time
William Gealey, 39, of Penn Township, Butler County is the newest full-time officer in Hampton Police Department.
Gealey recently became the longest-serving part-time patrolmen to gain full-time status on the township's police force.
“It's worth the wait,” said Gealey. “The guys are great. I really enjoy the area.”
A Butler High School graduate, Gealey — pronounced “Gaily” — once planned to become a rock guitarist.
“I was going to pursue a career in music,” said Gealey.
Instead, Gealey got an associate degree in emergency services and police serves from Butler County Community College.
“I enjoy the problem solving,” he said about police work. “I enjoy working outside and helping people.”
Gealey is the son of Robert and Sheila Gealey of Butler Township.
He and his wife, Annie, have three children, ages 5 and younger.
Gealey worked more than eight years as a part-time patrolman for Hampton Police Department before Hampton Council unanimously voted Dec. 19 to approve Gealey's promotion, effective Jan. 1.
The Dec. 31 retirement of former Hampton Police Chief Dan Connolly created the full-time job opening filled by Gealey.
“He stuck by us. He stayed. I respect him very highly,” said Connolly. “He's just a good, conscientious officer.”
Gealey first worked for police departments in the city of Parker, Armstrong County and Mars Borough, Butler County.
Gealey simultaneously worked part time as a deputy in the Butler County Sheriff's Department during his eight and half-years as a part-time patrolman in Hampton Township.
“He likes the area. He likes the job, and he really likes the people he works with,” said his mother, Sheila Gealey.
Austin Campanella, 26, of Hampton will fill the part-time job vacated by Gealey.
Gealey's promotion at the Dec. 19 meeting of Hampton Council preceded the Campanella's simultaneous appointment to part-time patrolman in Hampton Police Department.
