'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

Alex Gercak, 17, a member of Boy Scout Troop 560, received his Eagle Scout Award on June 9, at St. Bonaventure Parish in Glenshaw.

Alex was presented a citation from the state Senate by state Sen. Randy Vulakovich, (R-40th). The citation described Alex's Eagle project, which was completed at the Millvale Community Library. Alex and members of Troop 560 cleaned, assembled and moved into place furniture and shelving for the new library.

Alex is a senior at Shaler Area High School.
