The Norwin School District plans to host a public memorial service for Lt. Col. Christopher Raible on Oct. 13, at 1 p.m., in the Norwin High School Auditorium.

Raible died on Sept. 14, 2012, leading a counterattack against insurgents in support of Operation Enduring Freedom at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan.

Raible, a 1990 graduate of Norwin High School, was a member of the math club, the Letter Winners' club and a starting defensive back for the Norwin Knights football team.

He was also a 1995 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, where he received a degree in civil engineering.

During his time in the military, Raible received several awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.

The memorial service includes a presentation of the colors by the United States Marine Corps Color Guard, a video, a slideshow of family and military photographs and remarks from several Marines, family, friends, Rep. Tim Murphy, VFW Post 781 Commander Don Kattic and former Norwin High School principal Ronald Peduzzi.
