Margaret Rumley wants to do her own landscaping, but there's a problem.

“If it's just me, it takes about a month to do it all,” said Rumley, 87, a native of Latrobe who has lived in her Sisto Street home in Verona for 25 years.

“Once I'm done, it's time to start again,” she said.

Through a partnership between Habitat for Humanity, Constellation Energy and the Professional Golfers' Association, Rumley had a backyard of volunteers — including three members of the PGA Senior Tour — lending a helping hand with the yard work on June 25.

Professional golfers Joe Daley, Sandy Lyle and Peter Senior were helping a crew of about 20 volunteers with landscaping. Rumley said Habitat officials last week fixed her roof, which was leaking water into her bedroom.

Senior, of Queensland in Australia, said he is happy to help.

“Most towns where we play, we have charities that we normally work with, hospital visits, personal appearances and so forth,” he said, adding that this is the first time he's worked with Habitat for Humanity.

“We wanted to spend a little bit of time helping out,” he said.

PGA Director of Communications Mark Williams said PGA officials and golfers have been doing this type of charity work since 1938.

“Last year, we raised about $130 million for charity benefits all over the world,” Williams said. “We're closing in on $2 billion in charitable donations.”

Senior, Lyle and Daley played in the Constellation Senior Player Championship June 27 to June 30 at Fox Chapel Golf Club, where Daley was the defending champion.

They were headed next to Omaha, Neb., for the U.S. Senior Open Championship.

Rumley made her feelings known about the work being done.

“It's great,” she said.
