Penn Hills High School was evacuated for the second time in a week on Monday, after a bomb threat was found on a note in a restroom, according to school district officials.

The note was discovered around 10:24 a.m. Penn Hills police were called, and students and staff evacuated the building. After receiving an all-clear from police, classes were able to resume.

Penn Hills Police Chief Howard Burton said the incident this week is similar to what happened on Sept. 19, when senior-high classes were cancelled for the day following a bomb threat.

“It's a note someone found,” Burton said. “We were there (searching the building) for about a half-hour. It's a cursory thing. You can't do an effective, thorough job on a building that size. But you also have to take into account the credibility of a threat.”

Burton said that with students passing through metal detectors and submitting to bookbag searches, “it's a pretty secure situation over there.”
