Trafford Councilman Daykon rescinds resignation

| Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, 9:01 p.m.

Trafford Councilman John Daykon has rescinded the resignation that he offered after an argument with Councilman Frank Bruno during a meeting last month.

During the Jan. 15 meeting, Council President Rich Laird read a letter from Daykon saying that he reconsidered after hearing from many residents who wanted him to stay on council. Daykon was absent from the meeting because he was ill.

Though he didn't identify Bruno by name in his letter, Daykon said he took exception to Bruno calling him a liar and he hopes for a “higher standard” from council members. He said he looks forward to working to move the borough forward and make government more efficient.

“After discussing the situation with my family, as they are my first priority in my decision, I have decided to finish what I have started,” Daykon wrote.

Bruno also was absent from the meeting, which was the first since his heated exchange with Daykon about a disputed $8,000 grant to the Trafford Fire Co. on Dec. 18.

Public works hiring

Council voted 5-0 to hire Patrick Adamson of Claridge as a full-time public-works employee.

Adamson's hiring comes after public works employee David Bell resigned and Jerry Dorsey went on medical leave. Officials interviewed five of the 55 job applicants.

“He's very energetic and he's going to be a very good fit,” Councilman Henry Schultz said of Adamson.

Solicitor Craig Alexander said Adamson will be paid $16.50 an hour — the tentative wage for new hires under a pending contract with the union for public-works employees.

Alexander said he recently was involved in the first bargaining session with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 205.

Appointments

Council ratified two appointments to regional recreation boards.

Councilwoman Rita Windsor will serve on the Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission, with Councilwoman Vicki Megon acting as the alternate. Megon's husband, Corey, will serve on the board of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail.
