Penn-Trafford HR director Pope resigns
The Penn-Trafford School District is eliminating the position of human resources director after the school board this week accepted the former director's resignation.
Board members voted 8-0 to accept Ramona Pope's resignation, effective Dec. 26, “under the terms and conditions agreed to by the parties,” according to the language that officials voted on. School board member Bruce Newell was absent from the Jan. 14 meeting.
The terms and conditions that the school board voted on were not disclosed.
In November, the school board approved a medical leave for Pope, 51, of Verona, through April.
Board President Jay Tray and Superintendent Tom Butler said they couldn't discuss Pope's resignation because of the confidentiality of personnel issues.
Solicitor Russell Lucas said the district has no comment about Pope's resignation.
A listed phone number for Pope was not in service.
Hired in June 2009 at an annual salary of $92,000, Pope was the first person to have the title of human resources for the district. She previously worked in the same position for the Wilkinsburg School District and was payroll officer for the Penn Hills School District.
Pope's former duties have been divided among five administrative employees, Butler said.
“It's been very seamless, so that's why we're comfortable that we won't have to replace her,” he said.
One of the administrators who will take on more of the human resources work is Joan Wehner, the assistant to the director of financial planning and business affairs. This week, the board extended her contract from March 25, 2013, to June 30, 2018, for $58,000 a year. Board members initially hired Wehner in March 2010 for a three-year contract for $48,000 a year.
