A trio of Penn-Trafford educators will be attending out-of-state conferences early next year at no cost to the school district.

The school board on Monday approved participation by high school teachers Mark Crovak and Derek Cuthbert in the U.S. Marine Educator Workshop in Parris Island, S.C., from Feb. 11 to 24.

The Marine Corps describes the workshop as an annual awareness program that shows high school and community college educators and the media about the making of a Marine.

The board also agreed to let athletic trainer Larry Cooper go to the National Athletic Trainers' Association joint committee meeting in Dallas from Jan. 24 to 27.

Subs

Two long-term substitutes are beginning work this month.

Alissa Jones started work Tuesday as a sub for Noell Stultz, who is the emotional-support teacher at McCullough Elementary.

Caitlin Bixler will start on Nov. 18 as a sub for Stephanie Miller, who is a student-learning assistant at Sunrise Estates Elementary.

Athletic hirings

The school board approved the following athletic hirings:

• Brittany Chiodo and Olivia Rizzo, assistant junior high girls basketball coaches.

• Richard Ginther, assistant varsity softball coach.

• David Moio, junior high girls head basketball coach.
