Samantha Myler selected Clarion University because she was impressed with the College of Education.

During her freshman year, Myler, 21, of Plum took an economics course.

The experience changed her plans from becoming a teacher to working as a financial analyst.

Myler changed her major to finance and economics in the College of Business Administration.

Her dedication to her major has resulted in her induction into Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society serving business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student can receive in a program accredited by AACSB International, according to the society's website.

Myler is one of 11 juniors and seniors in Clarion's College of Business Administration inducted into the society. Myler said there are about 300 students in the two classes.

The induction ceremony occurred April 25 at Clarion University.

“Samantha has always been a good student,” said Richard Myler, Samantha's father. “She's got that mindset. We are impressed with her and proud of her.”

Myler, who said her grade-point average is 3.83, said potential inductees are evaluated by their grades. Also, the president of the university's chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma speaks with professors about the student's work ethic and finds out about the activities in which the student is involved.

In addition to her academics, Myler is president of Kappa Kappa Psi, a national honorary band service fraternity.

Myler, a 2010 graduate of Plum High School, plays the trombone and was a member of the marching and concert bands.

“I like to be busy,” Myler said.

Myler hopes to work as a financial analyst for a bank after receiving her bachelor's degree.

“I feel very honored by my induction into Beta Gamma Sigma,” Myler said.
