'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a McKees Rocks man early Tuesday.

Quinton Dupree White, 24, died at the intersection of Churchill Street and Front Alley shortly after midnight, McKees Rocks police Chief Robert Cifrulak said. It appears White was shot once in the head at close range, Cifrulak said.

Neighbors told police they heard a single gunshot, and a passerby found White's body while walking to a convenience store, Cifrulak said.

Investigators have not determined a motive in the shooting, he said. White may have been talking on a cell phone when he was approached and shot, Cifrulak said. Borough police and Allegheny County homicide detectives are investigating.
