'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

State police and humane officers are investigating after three dogs were found dead at a home in Yukon this afternoon.

The dogs were found dead in the yard of the Highway Street home in South Huntingdon Township.

Neighbors said the tenants moved out and left several dogs chained on the property. Neighbors said they repeatedly called the Fallen Timber Animal Shelter in Elizabeth to report that the animals were underfed, then contacted police.

Police, who have not yet identified the animals' owner, said charges will be filed.
