Elections are one of those shining moments of democracy in which everyone feels he has a voice and can make a difference. Except when he can't.

I go to school in Michigan, so I have to vote by absentee ballot. I requested one, but never got it. Westmoreland County said it sent me one, so it wasn't their problem and I should try again next year. The Postal Inspection Service still hasn't gotten back to me. The Pennsylvania Department of State tried to help, unsuccessfully.

It seems that in our democratic society, no one actually cares if you can vote or not.
