A motorist suffered a severe head injury Friday afternoon when she was thrown from a vehicle in a crash near the Parkway North in Summer Hill, state police said.

Kimberly E. Smith was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in the North Side for treatment following the crash at 12:15 p.m. on the entrance ramp from McKnight Road to the southbound lanes of Interstate 279, state police said. Troopers did not say how old she is and listed her address only as Pittsburgh.

Troopers said Smith's vehicle got a flat tire, causing her to lose control. The vehicle struck the guiderails, traveled back across the roadway and struck a concrete wall. The vehicle was partially lifted off the roadway with only the right wheels on the ground and traveled that way for about 40 feet, ejecting Smith out the passenger's window, state police said.
