The Washington County man accused of kidnapping, raping and terrorizing his estranged girlfriend surrendered to authorities on Friday.

John Edward Gallo, 40, was charged with a variety of crimes after the woman told police he abducted her on Sept. 23 and terrorized her throughout the night before she managed to jump out of his moving vehicle the next morning on the Chestnut Street entrance to Interstate 70 near Washington, state police said.

Gallo of Washington was accompanied by his attorney when he surrendered at the offices of District Judge David Mark in Canonsburg. Gallo was arraigned and lodged in the Washington County Correctional Facility to await a preliminary hearing scheduled Wednesday.
