The state Department of Public Welfare will delay proposed copayments for families of children with disabilities who get Medicaid coverage.
“The department has always preferred the option of applying a premium to this program and will be working with stakeholders who have come to us in support of a premium as opposed to the copayment,” said department Secretary Gary Alexander.
The change was part of an overhaul to state welfare benefits that the General Assembly approved last year in a cost-cutting move. Families whose income exceeds 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines are affected.
The change was to take effect this month for newly eligible beneficiaries and Nov. 1 for current beneficiaries.
