Contractors working on the renovation project at the Connellsville Area High School want to have the building enclosed before winter sets in.

John Pappas with Eckles Architecture said work in the Connellsville Area High School auditorium is moving ahead.

“Work is pushing forward in the auditorium,” he said. “The ceiling space has been painted out and we met with the auditorium seating company. That area is moving along well.”

Work is also being done to the Commons Area, which will house a store and a studio area. The area where the World Trade Center steel will call home is also being worked on.

The new walls for the rooms in the Auditorium Commons and the rough-ins for the stage and auditorium area are also being worked on.

Work is continuing on the foundations and demolition associated with the new auxiliary gymnasium.

“The work in all of these areas will continue throughout the month of October with the emphasis on trying to get the building enclosed before winter,” Pappas said.

“With the cooler weather beginning to set in, the contractors have been working on trying to finish up the concrete sidewalks and curbs by the cafeteria, the music wing and the new parking lot,” he said. “We would like to get as much of this concrete installed this fall as possible.

“Our goal is to also have the new parking lot on the west side of the building paved before the end of the paving season,” Pappas concluded.

Some of the contractors continue to work on second shift to finish work in the occupied areas of the building, which Pappas expects will continue throughout October.

Last week, Connellsville Area School Board approved change orders in regards to the senior high school additions and renovations that include one from Canfield at an additional cost of $4,717 as well as two change orders submitted by Hranec Corp. in the amount of $8,895.25 and $3,472.15.

Directors also agreed to cancel the Nov. 12 agenda meeting. That meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 14, prior to the regularly scheduled board meeting at 7 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Connellsville Career and Technical Center.
