Jessica Rood, who is the Newsmaker scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012. Rood, 19, is a sophomore at La Roche College in McCandless. She will represent Pennsylvania at the National Miss Collegiate America Pageant in July at Walt Disney World’s Swan and Dolphin Hotel. Rood is a native if Millcreek in Erie County.

Age: 19.

Residence: Millcreek, Erie County.

Family: Parents, Ray and Teena Rood; brother, Ray Rood Jr., 21.

Occupation: Rood works as a fashion consultant and pageant manager at the One Enchanted Evening bridal and formal salon in Pine.

Background: Rood began participating in pageants at age 10. She won the Miss Erie Pageant in 2006 and was crowned Miss Pennsylvania in the Miss American Coed pageant in 2008. Her charitable work includes volunteering at the 65 Roses Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the WDVE Children's Hospital Radiothon and the Art Rooney 5K Run.

Education: Rood is a 2011graduate of McDowell High School in Millcreek. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in marketing.
