Police said two men accused of fatally shooting a pregnant Ambridge woman planned to rob her boyfriend, who was interfering in the drug trade of one of the suspects.
“These are the faces of the devil,” acting Ambridge police Chief James Mann said Wednesday of Marlin Kelly, 27, and Tyrone Fuller, 31.
Police charged Kelly and Fuller with criminal homicide, homicide of an unborn child, robbery and criminal conspiracy in the death of Conekeia “Coco” Finney. Police said she was seven months pregnant and was shot once in the chest at close range as she stood at the door to her apartment building about 8:25 p.m. Sunday.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force arrested Kelly in Turtle Creek and Fuller in Monessen on Wednesday morning.
According to arrest reports from Mann and Beaver County Detective Robert Heberle, one witness told police she heard Fuller say that Finney's boyfriend, Steven Murray, “had been ‘stepping' on Fuller's drug business and also was ‘messing' with Fuller's money.”
Fuller and Kelly planned to rob Murray on Sunday, according to the complaint.
Police wrote that Elaine Finney, who was parked outside her daughter's apartment building, heard a bang and saw two men running away. Police added that her description of the men's clothing matched descriptions from two other witnesses.
Mann and Beaver County District Attorney Anthony J. Berosh would not say if investigators found drugs in Murray's apartment. Berosh said Murray was not involved in the shooting.
Sewickley police charged Fuller with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful body armor and other crimes in July, when police found his bullet-proof vest in an apartment on Merchant Street in Ambridge. They accused him of holding a gun to his girlfriend's head as they drove on Route 65 in Sewickley.
Monaca police charged Murray with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, illegally carrying a firearm and terroristic threats in September 2011. He pointed a gun at a woman and her son at a home on Sixth Street in Monaca, according to a criminal complaint. Conekeia Finney posted his bail on the charges, and a trial is scheduled in January.
Elaine Finney spoke to media as her grandchild — Hezekhia Finney, 3, Conekeia's child — pressed against her.
“I pray for them because God said forgive, and I forgave them, but they still need to pay the debt for what they did to my child, and I hate to say it because I love the Lord, but I hope they never see the light of day again, because my grandson is without his mom,” Finney said.
Police said that Fuller is in the Westmoreland County jail and that Kelly is in Allegheny County Jail. Both men are scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday morning in Beaver County.
