Route 422 in Armstrong County has reopened after a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer closed the highway for about seven hours Friday morning.

State police said Lindsey Merlock, 18, of Kittanning was driving north on Cherry Run Road in Plumcreek about 4 a.m. when she fell asleep at the wheel and failed to stop at the intersection with Route 422.

Her Chevrolet Cavalier crossed into the path of a westbound tractor-trailer driven by James Klinger, 59, of Dalmatia, Pa.

Police said Merlock was taken to ACMH hospital in East Franklin for treatment of minor injuries. Klinger was not reported injured.

The collision closed Route 422 in both directions while emergency crews cleaned up hundreds of gallons of spilled diesel fuel and the vehicles were towed. PennDOT reported the highway had reopened at 11:30 a.m.
