Allegheny County elections officials have received complaints about mailers from Virginia-based Americans for Limited Government that show the voting histories of people and their neighbors in the 2004 and 2008 presidential elections.

At least one person who made the complaint said the voting histories were incorrect.

Rebekah Rast and Robert Romano, listed as spokespeople on the Americans for Limited Government website, did not respond to calls and emails. The Fairfax, Va., group bills itself as “a nonpartisan, nationwide network committed to advancing free-market reforms, private property rights and core American liberties.”

The mailers don't urge voters to support a candidate.

“Most of the complaints were people that were bothered that their voting record was made public, but it's a public record. Many people said they were inaccurate also,” said county Elections Division Manager Mark Wolosik.

A person's public voting record includes whether they voted and how — in person at their polling place or by absentee ballot — but not for whom they voted.
