Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 2 returned to service Saturday night, following a shutdown Sept. 24 for refueling and maintenance.

The 904-megawatt nuclear power plant in Shippingport is expected to reach full power by week's end, owner FirstEnergy Inc. said.

During the outage, 65 of the plant's 157 fuel assemblies were exchanged. Inspections and improvements were completed, including replacement of the unit's two low-pressure turbines; new turbines have an enhanced blade design to improve efficiency.
