Two area men have joined the thousands of American Red Cross disaster workers providing aid and comfort to people affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The local Red Cross deployed five more workers, bringing the region's total to 28.

Local residents, including Ron Patterson of Kittanning, and Robert Querio of Sarver, left for East Stroudsburg, on Nov. 3.

These volunteers will assist with sheltering efforts.

Shelters are open across multiple states, and feeding operations are ramping up as communities become accessible.
