Allegheny County Council is considering a plan to rename the 16th Street Bridge after historian and author David McCullough, a Pittsburgh native.
Councilwoman Barbara Daly Danko, D-Regent Square, is pushing the measure to rename the Allegheny River bridge, which connects the Strip District to the North Side. Council did not vote on the proposal at its meeting Wednesday but could address it at the December meeting.
Danko said it's appropriate to rename the closest bridge to the Heinz History Center after McCullough.
Also at the meeting, council passed a measure to conduct a Dec. 5 public hearing to focus on UPMC's land acquisitions and its nonprofit status. Councilman John DeFazio, D-Shaler, introduced the measure, saying he wanted public input on the matter. DeFazio said the hospital system should be paying more in taxes.
