A Castle Shannon man was rescued from his burning home Tuesday afternoon.

Police Chief Kenneth M. Truver said the fire erupted around 5 p.m. at the single-family dwelling in the 3700 block of Myrtle Avenue and that his officers saw fire and smoke and the man standing outside the house when they arrived.

The unidentified man, 51, ran back inside the house and had to be rescued by firefighters, Truver said. The man — who was home alone when the fire started — was taken to a hospital for treatment but Truver said he did not know the exact nature or extent of his injuries.

Firefighters from Castle Shannon and surrounding communities “put out the fire in short order,” Truver said. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating because of what Truver called the “unusual circumstances.”
