The man who allegedly held his ex-girlfriend hostage with a bomb at her Worthington home last month waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Keith L. Kammerdeiner, 38, of Aliquippa is accused of binding the hands and legs of his 27-year-old ex-girlfriend, spraying her with mace and sexually assaulting her at knife-point for several hours before she managed to escape.

He also left a homemade explosive device near the home, police said, which authorities discovered the following week.

Kammerdeiner, who appeared coherent and cooperative in court, agreed to waive his right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge James Owen in Kittanning in exchange for prosecutors dropping one count of rape and another count of aggravated indecent assault.

Kammerdeiner had faced two counts of both charges, but District Attorney Scott Andreassi said the prosecution is willing to withdraw one of each because they stem from the same incident. In addition, Kammerdeiner faces charges of risking a catastrophe, making terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, aggravated assault, simple assault and indecent assault.

Kammerdeiner is in Armstrong County Jail awaiting further court proceedings. His bail remains set at $150,000.
