A homicide suspect who has been on the run since summer was arrested Wednesday after Pittsburgh Police said he was found riding in the back seat of a jitney and carrying a bag of marijuana.

Gregory Smith, 26, is charged with homicide for the slaying of Jaquae Pascal, 26, who was gunned down on July 6, moments after leaving a barbershop on Kirkpatrick Street in the Hill District, city police Lt. Daniel M. Herrmann said. A warrant for Smith's arrest was issued on Aug. 30.

Smith was apprehended about 5 p.m. when plainclothes officers Matthew McCarthy and John Henson pulled the jitney over in what Herrmann described as a “routine traffic stop.” Smith initially lied about his identity and was carrying the marijuana, Herrmann said.
