The Mt. Pleasant community will honor its veterans with a parade and program on Monday.

The event is sponsored by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion and the Mt. Pleasant VFW.

The parade lineup will begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of Eagle and Main streets. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m., said Mt. Pleasant American Legion Treasurer William Lozier.

The parade will continue to the Veterans Wall where a program will begin at 11 a.m.

The Veterans Day program will feature comments by local officials.

Keynote speaker will be Staff Sgt. Andrew Auckerman of the 1st Battalion, 110th Infantry, National Guard Unit.

The Mt. Pleasant Viking Tower of Power marching band will participate as will the Mt. Pleasant Fireman's Band.

A silent tribute will be held, and ladies from the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries will take part in the laying of the wreaths.

“Mt. Pleasant is always happy to do what we can to honor our veterans,” Mayor Jerry Lucia said. “Our programs for the veterans are usually always well attended, and we hope that this year's will be no exception.”

Lozier said all veterans from the area are invited to participate in the parade and program.

The event is only one of the few days where veterans are honored, said Lozier.

“Veterans Day is only one of two days that are singled out to honor veterans,” Lozier said. “People need to be reminded of the sacrifices that both veterans and their families made, with some even paying the ultimate price.”

There will be refreshments for parade participants served after the program at the American Legion.

Veterans from the Donegal area will hold a Veterans Day celebration at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Donegal American Legion.
