Dairy Queen held up; police seek gunman

Police are seeking a gunman who attempted to rob a Dairy Queen in Union Township in Washington County on Saturday. The would-be robber entered the restaurant on Route 88 about 7:45 p.m. with a black handgun and demanded money, Southwest Regional Police Department said Sunday.

According to police, he said, “Give me all the money, or I'll shoot all of you.”

All three employees ran from the store without handing over cash, police said. The man followed them outside, police said, pointing the weapon and yelling. He then turned and headed north on Route 88 on foot, toward the South Park area.

Police described the robber as white, in his 20s and about 5 feet 8. He was wearing jeans, a green-and-white striped polo shirt with a black shirt underneath, a black ski mask and black shoes, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Southwest Regional Police at 724-929-8484.

Accident slows turnpike traffic

One woman was taken to an Altoona hospital after an accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Sunday.

State police at Somerset said the unidentified woman was taken to Altoona Regional Health System with facial injuries after the multi-vehicle accident at 12:57 p.m. in the westbound lanes at mile marker 146.7.

Traffic was reduced to one lane as crews cleared the road, police said. That, combined with heavy travel because of the holiday, resulted in stoppages and slow-moving traffic for several hours, police said.

Additional information was not available.
