Westmoreland County has a new chief clerk.
Commissioners on Thursday hired Vera Spina to take over the county's top clerical position.
Spina, 31, of Vandergrift, has worked since 2005 as a compliance officer in the county controller office.
The chief clerk is the person responsible for preparing the commissioners' meeting agendas, compiling meeting minutes, maintaining county records and overseeing bid openings and contracts.
Spina, who will earn $33,478 in her new position, was one of eight candidates interviewed for the job, according to Commissioner Charles Anderson.
She will replace Jennifer Kemerer, who will leave the position today after serving as chief clerk for the last 14 years.
