'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

A Mt. Lebanon man was shot four times when he tried to get into a recording studio in Lawrenceville on Thursday.

Pittsburgh police said Solomon Burton, 25, was shot through the front door of an apartment that was used as a studio about 9:45 p.m. in the 4700 block of Butler Street.

Police responding to a report of shots fired found Burton lying on the floor in the hallway. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Police found a handgun lying outside the apartment.

Several people were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, police said. Detectives interviewed four people from the apartment and released them, pending further investigation.

Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call homicide detectives at (412) 323-7161.
