The Pittsburgh Historic Review Commission on Wednesday approved an expansion of the Mexican War Streets historic district.

Located in the North Side, the War Streets neighborhood is an eclectic mix of Victorian row homes. In 1972, City Council designated a portion of the neighborhood from Drovers Way to Sherman Avenue and North Avenue to Sampsonia Street a historic district. It has since been included on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Historic Review Commission approved the addition of Sampsonia and Arch Streets into the city's historic designation, according to city officials. The Pittsburgh Planning Commission and council must approve the change.
