Former Slippery Rock police chief sues township, says he was wrongfully terminated

A former police chief claims in a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday that Slippery Rock Borough's council fired him in December 2010 because he refused to back a proposed merger with Slippery Rock Township.
Terry Brown, who lives in the township, was a borough police officer for 24 years and the chief for more than a year when council members Blasé Tucci and David Miller spearheaded the merger proposal in 2009, the lawsuit says.
After Brown violated a safety policy during a training session at a local gun range, the two men and borough solicitor Neva Stanger used the incident to punish him for refusing to back the merger, the lawsuit says.
Stanger and a borough spokesman couldn't be reached for comment.
