A higher education accreditation commission has removed Penn State's warning status.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education placed the university on warning status in the summer, citing potential fallout from the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal, including financial exposure and leadership challenges.

Penn State President Rodney Erickson announced Friday that the school has been notified that status was lifted following a visit to the campus by representatives from the commission.

“While the excellence of our educational programs was never in question, it is reassuring that Middle States continues to recognize Penn State as a world-class academic institution that is stepping up to meet its current challenges,” Erickson said.
