Intermediate unit settles wrongful termination lawsuit for $25,000
The Allegheny Intermediate Unit's insurance company paid $25,000 to settle a Butler County woman's federal lawsuit claiming she was fired for taking medical leave because of her depression, the agency's solicitor said Tuesday.
Bill Andrews said the state-created nonprofit education agency didn't admit any wrongdoing and that Mitchell no longer works for the agency. Katherine Mitchell of Jackson said in the lawsuit that she worked for the agency for 12 years before she was fired in March 2011 at the age of 52, 12 days after she started her medical leave.
Attorneys for both sides filed a joint motion to dismiss the case Tuesday. Mitchell's lawyer, Sam Cordes, couldn't be reached for comment.
