Dozens of Pittsburgh and Penn Hills police officers and Allegheny County Sheriff's deputies spent hours Tuesday searching in Homewood for a teenage girl before determining that she had not been abducted as first feared.

A 13-year-old girl getting off a school bus in the 8800 block of Frankstown Avenue at about 2:40 p.m. told investigators that she saw a man grab a girl who was getting off another bus and throw her “against her will” into a white van. The girl was screaming as the man dragged her into the van, the witness said, and twice said to her “you're dead” before driving along Texas Street.

City police Lt. Kevin Kraus said detectives spent several hours questioning the teen before determining that no one had been abducted. Police are considering charging the girl with making a false report to police.
