A sophomore at Pittsburgh Obama 6-12 faces school discipline and criminal charges for bringing a gun into the building Friday morning, a Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman said.

School security personnel watched on surveillance cameras around 10 a.m. as the student exited the building in East Liberty, school spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said. As officers were outside trying to find him, he came back inside the building but was detained and found to be carrying the gun, she said.

Pugh said school police do not know why the student brought the gun into the building.
