A 52-year-old Somerset County man died in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning atop Laurel Mountain in Ligonier Township.

The Westmoreland County Coroner's Office said Thomas Nestor of Somerset Township was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on Route 30, just west of the Somerset County line.

Deputy Coroner Josh Zappone said the cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy and toxicology tests conducted by forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht and Pathology Associates in Pittsburgh.

Coroner Ken Bacha said Nestor was driving west in a Buick sedan, about a quarter-mile from Summit Road.

Bacha said Nestor's car traveled slightly off the north shoulder of the roadway, moved back into the proper lane, then crossed the center line into the opposite lane, colliding with an eastbound vehicle.

The name and condition of the other driver were not released.

The road was closed while Nestor was extricated by firefighters. The roadway was reopened about 9 a.m.
