'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

State police arrested three men for arson stemming from a barn fire in Beaver County.

Zachary Chenevert, 18, of Avalon; Ricky Knight, 22, of Georgetown, and Jerry McElhaney, 19, of Hookstown, face seven charges each, including three counts of arson. All three turned themselves in Wednesday at an Aliquippa district court and were released on their own recognizance, state police said.

The Feb. 1 fire destroyed a vacant pole barn in Greene Township. The fire caused $120,000 in damage to the structure owned by First Energy, state police said.
