'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

A Greensburg woman died Thursday after a car crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer as both vehicles were approaching the toll area of the Monroeville exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, state police said.

Lucille Nicasio, 83, died at 2:48 p.m. at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, a spokesman for the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said.

State police said Nicasio was sitting in the back seat of the car when the crash occurred at 1:57 p.m. Two other people in the car — whose identities were not released — were hurt in the crash and taken to Forbes Regional, troopers said.

The truck driver was not injured and drove the rig away after troopers completed their preliminary investigation, state police said.
