The National Weather Service issued frost and flood advisories late Saturday when hail and scattered showers plagued the Pittsburgh area for much of the day.

The Ohio River crested at 21.3 feet, below flood stage of about 25 feet, and receded to just above 20 feet. Lower levels of the North Shore Riverwalk were covered up to 1 foot in some areas.

Neither the Monongahela nor the Allegheny River are approaching flood stage, meteorologists said. Wharf parking likely will remain closed until at least midday Sunday, when the water is expected to fall below 18 feet, the weather service said.

AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Edwards reported a 24-hour rain total of 0.08 of an inch, far less than the 1.1 inches that accumulated on Thursday.

“We're running above normal for the month — 2.75 inches so far, so about 145 percent of what we'd usually see,” Edwards said. “Obviously that's higher, but not a ton, and still nothing to worry about.”

Frost was expected to arrive between 4 and 8 a.m. Sunday with temperatures overnight in the mid- to upper 30s. Forecasters predict a Sunday high of 65 degrees.
