'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

Pittsburgh police are investigating why a Mt. Washington teenager showed up at UPMC Mercy early Sunday with a gunshot wound to her right shoulder.

The victim, 15, told police at the hospital shortly before 2 a.m. that she was walking with two friends near a 7-Eleven store on Brookline Boulevard when she was shot.

911 dispatchers had received calls of shots fired in the 2300 block of Edgebrook Avenue in Brookline at about the same time.
