Noteworthy: Mutlu received the 2012 Intel Early Career Faculty Award for outstanding research and educational contributions in the field of computer architecture. Mutlu is among 20 award recipients from 75 nominees.

Age: 34

Occupation: Assistant professor in Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Background: Mutlu directs the SAFARI research group at CMU's Computer Architecture Lab. It seeks to investigate safe, fair, robust approaches to computer architecture and security issues.

Education: Originally from Kayseri, Turkey, Mutlu earned bachelor's degrees in computer engineering and psychology from the University of Michigan, and a master's degree and doctorate in computer engineering from the University of Texas.
