Noteworthy: Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama will celebrate Anderson's work Saturday in the lobby of the Purnell Center for the Arts. During a reception, officials will honor her contributions to CMU spanning more than four decades. The public is invited to the reception, which is scheduled during CMU's Spring Carnival Weekend.

Family: Husband, the late Cletus Anderson; daughter, Catherine Anderson of Maynard, Mass.; son, Christopher Anderson of San Francisco

Residence: Squirrel Hill

Occupation: Professor of costume design and costume construction in Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama

Background: Anderson has been instrumental in the creative development of generations of designers for the entertainment industry. She and her husband wrote the textbook “Costume Design.” She has designed costumes for film, television, opera and theater.

Education: Bachelor of Fine Arts from Drake University; master's degree in costume design from Yale University
