Mother arrested after allegedly pulling gun during incident over 4-year-old son in Garfield
A woman was arrested early Sunday morning after she allegedly pulled a handgun in an incident involving her young son and his father.
Police said they responded about 1:30 a.m. to Kincaid Street in Pittsburgh's Garfield neighborhood for a report that a woman had a gun.
Investigators determined that a 23-year-old man and his 4-year-old son were visiting the man's girlfriend when the boy's mother arrived, demanding that her son be allowed to leave with her. The father let the boy leave with his mother after she pulled a handgun, police said.
The woman, Taylor Bennett, 23, of Carnegie, was later arrested at a home in the city's Sheraden neighborhood, police said. She is charged with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said the incident is not classified as child abduction, as there are no active court documents providing instructions on the child custody arrangements.
