Armstrong School District to hold surplus supplies, equipment auction Saturday

Tuesday, June 11, 2013, 8:43 p.m.

Armstrong School District will conduct an auction of surplus supplies and equipment beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday at the former Kittanning Township Elementary building along Silvis Hollow Road.

The auction will include two utility vans; a pickup truck with snow plow; commercial kitchen equipment; outdoor playground equipment; metal and wood shop equipment; lab equipment including microscopes and anatomy models; approximately 200 school desks and chairs; overhead projectors, televisions, DVD and VHS players; a large number of file cabinets; weight lifting and gym equipment; computer supplies including printers, laptops and flat-screen monitors; and much more.

Julie Dunmire, of J. Dunmire Auction Service in Saltsburg, who also oversaw ASD's auction last year at the Shannock Valley Warehouse, will conduct the auction. She said that although there were more items at the district's previous auction, she expects Saturday's event to be a “high dollar” affair.

“Auctions are funny little monsters,” she said. “You think you may get more for one thing, but you won't believe what a high price (you get) for another. I wouldn't be surprised, money-wise, if we're close to the other auction. I would love for it to be more.”

ASD facilities director Bill Henley said all of the items to be sold were previously offered to the other schools in the district “before we moved one thing.”

Henley said, “I think it's going to be very prosperous for the district.”

The auction will move from room to room beginning with machine and wood shop equipment at 8 a.m., followed by computer equipment at approximately 9:30 a.m., kitchen equipment at approximately 11 a.m. and vehicles at approximately noon.

Photos of items to be auctioned can be seen at AuctionZip.com. For more details, call Dunmire at 724-639-3522.
